Doubter if you don't agree with the society on things and speak up then you're reproved or disfellowshiped, where's freedom of choice in that?? Its their way or the highway

Bethelites Vow Of Poverty
by pale.emperor informer governing body assistant howie tran has shared his bethel vow of poverty contract.
it reads rather culty.
i think clause number 9 is particularly worrying...to adhere to, not the bible alone, but also the watchtower literature and the governing body.

Doubter - jws do not have freedom of association because they Can be reproved or disfellowshiped for associating with whom the society deems "the wrong people". Just as you can be reproved for being on this site and associating with us "mentally diseased apostates" as the society so kindly put it in the November 2011 study watchtower.

Doubter - the vast majority of "worldly families" don't cut their children off though if they decide to take a different course in life or if they have different beliefs!!

Doubter you must be enjoying this site because you've been on it a lot lately and you're commenting more. Your doubts about the religion must have increased with what you're learning here for you to be a more regular visitor and poster.

Doubter - sometimes pressure and family expectations forces/coerces people to feel like they HAVE to go to bethel, pioneer, be an elder, etc because their families and friends expect it of them. That kind of pressure can be very intense on a person emotionally

Funny occurrences
by Freedom rocks inwhat were some funny experiences you had of things that happened during talks at the meetings?.
a few of mine:.
- a brother had dyed his hair before his talk and it was raining heavily when he arrived at the hall and the dye was running down his face during his talk and his skin went more and more grey as the black dye ran down it.

A dad told his little boy to answer 'Jesus' during the watchtower study and the little boy said 'batman' instead and that had everyone laughing. The poor boy got punished though. He was only 4

We had a sister go to answer and she burped so loudly into the microphone which obviously made it even louder and everyone was laughing so much and the chairman kept bringing it up for the rest of the meeting whenever he could get a joke in about it

A few of mine:
- a brother had dyed his hair before his talk and it was raining heavily when he arrived at the hall and the dye was running down his face during his talk and his skin went more and more grey as the black dye ran down it. He looked ill by the end.
- a massive spider was on the podium during an elders talk and he stepped further and further back and loudly asked his wife to come and get it away from him. He was petrified of spiders and everyone was laughing because he had to get his wife to get it.
- a dog ran into the hall during a talk and caused chaos while all the brothers were trying to chase it out.
- a kid being dragged out during the talk by his mother to get spanked and shouting at the top of his voice as he disappeared out of the door "and a merry Christmas to you all!!!" Most people were in stitches laughing including the speaker, it took him a while to compose himself for the rest of his talk.
I know there's more but they'll come back to me I'm sure.

What would you do or say?
by Butyoucanneverleave ina brother who is not baptized ( so there's still hope for him ) had a sister recently run into him at a store.
show wanted to know if he's going to the kingdom hall.
she asked him to write a letter for her to give to his mother ( who's deceased) in the paradise explaining why he didn't make it.

I would have said "it's rather presumptuous of you to think you'll be there to give it to her".

My New Found Patriotism
by pale.emperor ini'm not entirely sure where this has come from, but these past few months i've found myself gradually becoming more and more involved politically and identifying myself differently.
we all remember what it was like as jws, no political involvement whatsoever, no national pride, no singing the national anthem or saluting the flag etc.
the watchtower literature always shown artists renditions of nationalism or politics like this:.

Well said Simon, the UK has some amazing history to research especially from the 15th - 19th centuries. Who knows what the country would be like now if those brave men hadn't fought for our freedom during world war l and ll.
